Overview

Western Australia does remarkable science. Our industries are globally competitive, our technology and research is world-class, our workforce is motivated and innovative, and we are excited to develop future generations of scientists and researchers to continue this rich tradition.

In 2024, we are at a crossroad domestically and internationally. Science and technology are key enablers to developing a more prosperous, safe and sustainable future. They will be crucial to addressing the impacts of a changing climate, an ageing population and supporting a diverse economy. Now more than ever, science and technology are shaping our society with rapid pace, and we must remain competitive.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation is currently developing a 10 Year Science and Technology Plan to determine the priorities for future investment and focus over the next decade.

We recently completed Phase One of consultation to gain an understanding of the current science, technology and research environment in Western Australia. The team visited all regions in the state and met with more than 500 people from a wide variety of sectors and backgrounds. We want to thank everyone that we have spoken to.

This survey will help us to refine and validate the findings of Phase One and is open to those who either work in science, research, or technology fields.

Instructions and Confidentiality

This survey will take 30-45mins to complete. You may save your progress and come back to complete it at another time.

The survey is divided into chapters on specific topics and no questions in the survey are required except for the demographic information. You may choose to answer all of the questions in the survey, or specific questions that relate to a particular area of interest for you.

All identifying information will be confidential. Aggregated findings will be published in a findings report at the completion of our Phase Two consultation.

Why your views matter

We want to hear from all Western Australians. Whether you live in a suburb in the metropolitan region, or in a small town in regional or remote Western Australia, your perspective is unique and important. It will shape the vision of our future science, research, and technology endeavours, and contribute to improving our State and the lives of those who call Western Australia home.

What happens next

A Phase Two Findings Report will be available in March 2024 that provides agregated survey results. These results will inform Phase Three of the consultation process which will include priority specific Rountables. Updates will be provided on this platform and to those on the mailing list.

Please contact the Science and Technology Plan team to be added to the mailing list.
